Richmond

Ya tenía ganas de conocer la capital de Virginia (no, no es Washington), pero la verdad que lo hemos ido dejando pasar debido a que todo el mundo nos ha desprestigiado la ciudad muchísimo: que si es aburrida, fea, nada que hacer…

Pero como a mi me gusta ver las cosas por mí misma, nos hemos levantado temprano por la mañana y allá nos hemos ido… y no nos hemos encontrado nada de lo que esperábamos; de hecho nos ha encantado.  Para ser la capital del estado, lo cierto es que es toda una sorpresa hallar un pueblecillo pequeño y dulce: un paseo estupendo para un fin de semana romántico y tranquilo. Lejos de la idea de ciudad que llevábamos en la cabeza, el lugar es super agradable, con calles repletas de casas coloniales, amplias y llenas de luz, limpias y tranquilísimas. De hecho creo que apenas nos hemos encontrado a nadie, más allá de aquellas personas reunidas en parques y plazas.

La verdad que no le diría a nadie que se instale allí a vivir la aventura de su vida, pero para un par de días relajados y de paseo… me parece un destino 10.

I really wanted to visit the capital of the state (no, it is not Washington), but we never found the time, because everybody has been telling us that it is not a good idea to spend our time there: they told us that it is boring, ugly and without anything interesting.

But I like to see everything myself... that is why we decided to get up early in the morning and spend the day there... and this was such a good idea. The city was really different from what we expected. Being Virginia’s capital, it was really a surprise to find it to be a pleasant little town: a wonderful walk for a romantic and relaxing weekend. Far from our expectations, we found a really nice place with clean streets and full of trees, small houses and tons of light. Actually, I really think that we did not find people on the street, only those who were meeting at gardens and other places.

I would not recommend that anybody move there to try to find the adventure of their life, but for a relaxing couple of days just walking around the city... I think Richmond is the perfect place.
