Montreal day 2

Lo más gordo de nuestro tour por la ciudad ya lo habíamos hecho, así que en nuestro segundo día en Montreal hemos aprovechado para recorrer sus calles a pie, hacer algo de shopping y explorar el precioso casco antiguo.

 Hay muchas cosas que me han enamorado de Montreal: sus calles, la moda, la comida [no olvidéis probar el Poutine (patatas fritas, queso y salchicha), Montreal smoked meat y los bagels] y el libertinaje de la ciudad (comparando con USA): la mayoría de edad es 18, son mucho más permisivos y os encontrareis un club de estriptis en cada esquina (literal).

The most of the important tours around the city were done, so for our second day we chose a walk around the city, did some shopping and exploring the gorgeous old town.

Una de las cosas que no podéis perderos de esta ciudad es el Montreal subterráneo. Para resguardarse del frío han construido una red de calles bajo los edificios, una mezcla de metro y centro comercial… pero es que esta red de pasadizos mide ¡32 km!, convirtiéndola en la mayor ciudad subterránea del mundo. Para que os hagáis una idea, ¡hay más de 30 cines! Y lo más logrado… nunca tienes la impresión de estar bajo tierra! Es sencillamente como estar dentro de una zona de tiendas, con mucha luz exterior y conectado de manera que puedes salir de tu edificio, subir al metro y llegar a tu oficina… sin tener q salir al exterior en ningún momento. Y es que los casi 6 meses de invierno en Montreal son duros…

One of the thing that you can’t miss in Montreal is the underground city. To protect against the could weather, they have made an underground web of streets under the buildings, something between a metro station and a shopping mall… about 32 km of passages, the biggest underground city in the world. Just one example: there are more than 30 cinemas down there!! And the most surprising thing is that I did not feel that I was underground. It is just like being in a commercial area, with lots of light from the outside, and everything is connected so that you can go out from your building, take the metro and go to your office without going to the surface! All of that because the almost 6 months of winter in Montreal are really hard.

Y para rematar el viaje, nos decidimos por ir a ver El Circo del Sol! no se me ocurre nada bueno que decir de este espectáculo que no se haya dicho ya... pero os dire algo que posiblemente muchos no sepais. El Circo del Sol es originario de Montreal, asi que que mejor que verlos en casa!

And for the end of our trip, we decided go to the Cirque du Soleil! I cannot say any good thing that you have not heard before, but let me just say something that maybe most of you do not know... this circus it is originally from Montreal, and there is nothing better that enjoying it from its home town!

Por cierto, deciros que el estado de Nueva York (uno de tantos que hemos cruzado) es mas que una ciudad. Lo cierto es que es un lugar precioso.

One more thing, just to let you know: the state of New York is more than just a city. Actually, it is a really beautiful place!

Montreal tour

En contra de lo previsto, sí, he abandonado USA durante este año de mi aventura americana y nos hemos ido a pasar unos días al país vecino: ¡mi primera experiencia en Canadá!

Me fui sin demasiadas esperanzas y he vuelto encantada. Si alguien quiere ofrecerme un trabajo (o unas prácticas) en Montreal durante la temporada de primavera_ verano (no me atrevo en invierno) ¡me voy de cabeza! Me he enamorado de la ciudad. Lo más europeo que hasta el momento me he encontrado en el continente americano: acogedora, divertida y llena de serpenteantes calles empedradas de esas que odian las adictas a los tacones y amamos las fans de las converse :) (por no hablar de que la mayor parte de la población es bilingüe!!!).

Nuevo plan de residencia en mente: MONTREAL.

Despite my original intentions, I abandoned the U.S. for a few days and we went to visit the neighboring country: my first time in Canada.

I went without too many expectations and I came back totally in love with the city of Montreal! If somebody wants to offer me a job or some internship there during the spring-summer season (not in winter!) I will be there without any doubt! It is the most European city I have found until now on this continent: cozy, fun, and full of winding streets hated by people who love high heels, and loved by Converse fans (and do not forget that most of the population is bilingual!!!!!!) 

My new residential plan: Montreal

Para empezar, nos hemos ido de tour, visitando algunos de los puntos más importantes de la ciudad y sus alrededores:

To start with, we went for a tour, visiting some of the most important spots in the city and surrounding area:

• La biosfera: unas de las cosas que más me ha gustado. Al menos pasaros por la zona. Es digna de ver (lo de dentro es un museo).
• The Biosphere: one of my favorite things. At least walk around, it is amazing (the inside is a museum)

 

• Estadio de los Juegos Olímpicos de 1976
• 1976’s Olympic Games Stadium

• Habitat 67: una urbanización un poco rara y nada barata, diseñada para que cada vivienda tengan total independencia y ninguna ventana de a la casa del vecino.

• Habitat 67: a weird and expensive neighborhood, designed for privacy in every house, where no window lets you see inside the neighbors home

• Basílica de Notre Dame y Plaza de Armas: Justo enfrente de la plaza  (place d’armes) está situada la BASILICA (que no la catedral, que en Montreal también tienen una) de Notre Dame… Por fuera no parece gran cosa, pero dentro os aseguro es espectacular (aquí se caso Celine Dion… al entrar entendimos el por qué)

• Notre Dame basilica and Place d' Armes: just across the place it’s the BASILICA (not the cathedral, this is a different one) of Notre Dame… it may not look very impressive from the outside, but the inside it’s amazing! (this is where Celine Dion got married, and when we went inside we knew why she chose this place).

Y ya para terminar el día paseo, cena, una cerveza y un poquito de música en directo. ¡Encantadas con Montreal!

And for the end of the day, we went for dinner,a  walk, beer and live music…. We love Montreal!!
